In the packed stands of the Römerberg, the noise level reached its maximum, as Faris Al-Sultan (Munich) crossed the finish line after 8:13:50 h and took the title of European Champion Ironman. Just a couple of minutes later the Hanoverian Jan Raphael finished in 8:19:31 h. Michael Göhner (Reutlingen) completed the race after 8:20:26 h. Fastest international athlete was the Australien Luke McKenzie, he came in sixth.
In last year's women's European Championship, the Swiss Caroline Steffen took second. This year she won the IRONMAN with a narrow lead in 9:12:13 h and thus confirmed her good shape of the last months. Runner-up Lucie Zelenkova (Czech) finished in 9:13:46, just 30 seconds ahead of Sonja Tajsich (Eilsbrunn). Sonja Tajsich ran the fastest marathon and almost caught Zelenkova. With a finishing time of 9:14:14 h she was the fastest German female athlete. (source: Ironman.de)
