Boston Marathon
Geoffrey Mutai, winner of the 115th Boston Marathon, reached the finish line in 2:03:02 hours and thus undercut the world record of Haile Gebrselassie, which he had established in Berlin in 2008 by 57 seconds. However, his time is not considered a world record.
This is confirmed by Chris Conley, spokesman of the oldest city marathon race in the world. Since the route profile does not meet the requirements of a world record course the time can not be seen as such a time. This is because of the profile of the route.
Even the second runner Moses Mosop, also from Kenya, remained below the world record time. As third runner the Ethiopian Gebre Gebremariam finished.
In the women's race, Kenyan Caroline Kilel finished just before US-American Desiree Davila and her compatriot Sahron Cherop.
